Border Patrol Agents Seize More than $1.5 Million in Cocaine Wellton, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the checkpoint on Interstate 8 east of Wellton seized nearly 50 pounds of cocaine yesterday. At about 11 a.m. yesterday, a black minivan with two female occupants approached the checkpoint. Agents continued their investigation and discovered 20 bundles of cocaine hidden under the plastic quarter panel behind the driver’s seat. The cocaine has a total weight of 49.8 pounds and has an estimated street value of more than $1.5 million. The Drug Enforcement Administration took custody of the cocaine and the occupants of the vehicle, a U.S. citizen and a citizen of Mexico with a valid Border Crossing Card. The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
