| Cheshire murder suspect attempted suicide |

The condition of Cheshire murder suspect Steven J. Hayes was uncertain this morning, after he apparently tried to commit suicide in his jail cell Sunday. Hayes, 46, of Winsted was taken to the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, which referred all calls regarding his conditrion to the Department of Corrections. When called this morning, Department spokesman Brian Garnett said: "I cannot give out any information because of the court-imposed gag order." The court's order has been in effect for more than a year, and refers to to the murder case itself. Jury selection, which had been scheduled to resume today in New Haven Superior Court, has been halted. The trial was scheduled to begin Sept. 13. Read More. |
