Back in July the Lawrence County jail shut it's doors and transferred inmates to other facilities . There was concern over safety and the potential for inmates to escape. It's now undergone a major makeover. For the last six months crews have been making it worthy of housing inmates and KOLR/KSFX got a first hand look at these improvements. A walk through the Lawrence County jail six months ago would have sent a shiver down anyone's spine. Broken doors, busted walls, and no electricity. The gray underground holding area, however, is now pink and ready for prisoners. "It's supposed to provide a calming affect," adds Lawrence County Sheriff Brad Delay. Sheriff Delay says all the doors are mechanically operated, unlike the old ones that didn't lock at all. "There are now cameras in place and video equipment," adds Delay.
