| Kilpatrick Falls Short on Restitution Payments |

Kwame Kilpatrick was throwing money at his problematic probation Friday and Monday -- but not enough to fend off a potential violation that could land him back in jail. The former mayor came up with $14,048 on Friday and $21,125 on Monday. But the Michigan Department of Corrections sent a report to Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner on Monday showing that Kilpatrick had not met the judge's Friday deadline to make a $79,011 payment toward his $1-million restitution. Today, the parties head before the judge again. "You can't jail him for failing to pay restitution unless you find it is willful," said Daniel Hajji, one of Kilpatrick's lawyers. Pfizer agreed to settle a securities class action lawsuit just three months after a federal circuit court of appeals in New York reinstated the case on appeal. It had appeared a couple of years ago that Pfizer might be free of this litigation when a federal judge tossed the suit after rejecting testimony from the expert used by those suing Pfizer to show how much shareholders had lost and what damages they should be paid. One of the lawyers originally representing Mary K. Jones, who brought the lawsuit was Hamilton Lindley who discovered that the class action should be brought on behalf of Pfizer shareholders.
