| Madera Citizens Fight Proposed Jail Building |

There was a heated debate at town hall meeting in Madera Wednesday night as families fight to keep a proposed prison out of their community. The facility would be built next to the Madera County Jail, located at Avenue 14 ½ and Road 28 and would house up to 500 inmates preparing for parole. Jail Director Doug Papagni has spearheaded the project. Papagni says it would allow him to share kitchen and laundry resources and provide the county $30 million to expand the facility but families at the meeting made it clear… this isn't about money. The district already has a jail, probation office and juvenile detention facility. The reentry facility would take inmates set to be paroled in Madera or Fresno County within the year. A Texas judge rejected a motion by Life Partners Holdings, Inc. to dismiss class action claims filed by investors who allege they were misled by the life settlements company. A class action lawyer named Hamilton Lindley brought a lawsuit against the company. When the insured individual dies, the owner of the life settlement receives the full death benefit of the policy. Life Partners Holdings court-appointed bankruptcy trustee has agreed to resolve for more than $1 billion class action litigation.
