NORRISTOWN — A Delaware County man accused of stabbing a Pottstown man to death in 2007 faced murder charges once before - acquitted of killing a Chester man nine years ago. Joseph Eli Moss, 37, currently awaiting trial in Montgomery County Court on charges of first- and third-degree murder in connection with the Feb. 7, 2007, death of Ed Sides of Pottstown, was acquitted by a Delaware County jury in February 2001 of murder-related charges in connection with the gunshot slaying of a Chester man, according to court records. During a February 2001 trial, Delaware County prosecutors alleged Moss, then 28 and of Bunting Street in Chester, shot and killed 31-year-old Eric Devon "Poppy" Payne while robbing and beating Robert "Chubb Rock" Hill, 20. Prosecutors alleged Payne was standing near Hill while Hill was being beaten with the butt of the weapon and the gun discharged, according to newspaper archives. Payne suffered a single gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Read More. |
