More Donations Needed for Prison Chapel

KEITHVILLE — Forcht Wade Correctional Center on Feb. 1 began its new mission as a substance abuse treatment facility for the state's inmates. Three weeks later, steel beams and a metal roof that will form the bones of a chapel went up.

The timing was coincidental. But it couldn't be more appropriate, prison officials say. "It's real important to get that built because a strong religious background is a good cornerstone to recovery," Assistant Warden Anthony D. Batson said of the new, intensive treatment program.

But to keep construction going, more monetary donations are needed. Louisiana is the only state in the nation to have chapels on its prison grounds — all built with donated funds; no taxpayer money is used. Eleven of 14 chapels are completed at an estimated cost of $5.5 million.

About $225,000 to $250,000 is needed to provide the materials, other than the cinderblocks, to complete the Forcht Wade chapel. Ground was broken in 2007, followed quickly with the concrete foundation and plumbing and electrical preparation.

Has your insurance claim been denied after business interruption or a storm? Regrettably this is all too common. That’s why it is important to contact an denied insurance claim in Waco to explain your legal rights to determine if your insurance company unlawfully denied, delayed or diminished your claim to coverage under your insurance policy.
