An inmate at an Indiana County prison was strangled early Sunday morning.

Jayson M. Stewart, 29, of Arnold, is believed to have been killed by his cellmate at the State Correctional Institution Pine Grove.

The suspect's name has not yet been released, but he is a 19-year-old man from Upper Darby.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the case. They have not yet released details on the crime.

Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker said the cause of death for Mr. Stewart was asphyxia due to manual strangulation. He was discovered in his cell about 3 a.m. and taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:02 a.m.

While Mr. Stewart did have lacerations and some minor blunt force trauma to his neck and face, there were no defensive wounds and nothing to indicate a struggle, Mr. Baker said.
