| No Charges for Officer for Inmate Handling |

A Bristol police officer will not be charged for allegedly handcuffing a female prisoner in his custody to a wall outside a South Burlington jail for nearly a half hour last month following a dispute with prison staff about where she should be lodged. Chittenden County State’s Attorney Thomas J. Donovan said Wednesday that the officer’s conduct was wrong but that there was insufficient evidence to file a criminal charge against him. Donovan also said there needs to be better communication between the Bristol Police Department and the state Corrections Department regarding how to handle criminal suspects who require lodging at a prison.
