| Outsourcing Under Question in Bucks County |

Bucks County Board of Commissioners unanimously tabled three toxicology and other lab testing contracts for the county coroner’s office at their regular business meeting on March 3 in Doylestown. The contracts in question included two one-year toxicology services agreements with Drug Scan of Warminster and National Medical Services of Willow Grove as well as a one-year contract to receive lab services from St. Luke’s Health Network of Bethlehem. Commissioner James Cawley motioned to table the contracts until a representative from the coroner’s office could explain why the outsourcing is necessary. “I do have questions regarding the need for outside toxicology testing when we’ve just completed the construction of the new morgue and crime lab,” Cawley said. “I would like to know why we can’t do it in-house.” Commissioners Chairman Charles Martin and Diane Ellis-Marseglia supported Cawley in his request for an explanation of economical reasoning for outsourcing the lab services, and approved the motion to table the matter. During the meeting, the commissioners also discussed and approved two contracts with Knoll Laboratories of Richmond, Va., to provide inmate and resident drug testing for the county’s department of corrections.
