| 18 Men Charged in Canadian Prison Riot |

WINNIPEG - Brandon Police Service has now charged 18 men for their alleged involvement in a riot at Brandon Correctional Centre last year. Up to 27 inmates were involved in the Oct. 4, 2009 uprising, which was quelled by the corrections emergency response team, police said. Six of the 18 men were still in custody at BCC and charged Feb. 23. The rest have been charged by way of arrest warrants and are no longer in Brandon, police said. They were either released or moved to other facilities. Of the remaining 12, four are at the Winnipeg Remand Centre, three are at Headingley Correctional Centre, two are at The Pas Correctional Centre, all provincial jails, and one is at Stony Mountain Penitentiary, a federal prison, police said. Police said two men — Darren Paul George, 20, and Daniel James Cote, 19 — were released from the correctional system and are being sought. Read More. |
