After his three years in prison, Gary Becker will spend five years on extended supervision. He will follow the procedure for all sex offenders, said Melissa Roberts, the former Department of Corrections' director of sex offender programs. She is now the executive assistant to the secretary of the DOC. His first 60 days out of prison will be an intake period, where the agent assigned to his case will review police and court records and develop a background history for him before using a series of risk assessment tools to determine his current risk level. Like with prison programs, Roberts said, the supervision programs really try to find out what else someone may have done and develop a relapse plan so the offender understands their triggers.
