The state's prison system Monday disputed a woman's claim that hundreds of inmates at Soledad State Prison are on a hunger strike to protest the anniversary of California's Three Strikes law. Terry Thornton, spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, said Monday that staff at the Correctional Training Facility have not seen any mass hunger strike. 'Rumblings of a fast' "I heard rumblings of a fast a few weeks ago, but I don't think it got much traction," Thornton said. Barbara Brooks, founder of Sentencing and Justice Reform Advocacy and a mother of a Three Strikes inmate, said Sunday that about 480 CTF inmates will only be drinking water and juice for three days. The fast started Sunday and will end today, she said. Brooks said Monday that she doesn't know why CTF or CDCR officials would deny that inmates are participating in the strike.
