MUSKEGON COUNTY -- Less than six weeks before mentally ill parole violator Robert Lee Shine murdered his girlfriend, his parole officer reported to superiors that Shine had threatened to kill the woman and recommended his parole be revoked. The agent's supervisor agreed, recommending Shine be returned to prison and stating in a report: "He is a threat to the community." In addition to the death threat, Shine had numerous other violations on his record -- including the mere fact that he was living with Dianne Joy Preston-Aguilar, whom he was forbidden to contact. His other violations included testing positive for cocaine; failing to contact his agent, take prescribed medicine or participate in mental-health treatment; and shoplifting. He reportedly threatened suicide on a monthly basis. And his "risk scores," according to a Department of Corrections test, were at the very top for violence and near the top for likelihood to reoffend. Read More. |
