ROME — Two state-run prisons in Rome will see consolidations within their dormitory space, the state Department of Correctional Services said Monday. The reductions at the Mohawk and Oneida correctional facilities are part of an initiative taking place over the next few weeks at 22 sites across the state. No corrections officers will lose their jobs, department spokesman Erick Kriss said. Instead, housing units within the prisons will be closed and staffers who worked in them will be transferred to other housing units within the same prisons, he said. “Nobody is going to lose a job, there will be no layoffs and the only transfers will be that instead of walking to one part of the building, you walk to another,” Kriss said.
