Indianapolis, IN (March 16, 2010) – Today, the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) was recognized for its generous efforts in the 2009 State Employees’ Community Campaign (SECC). A ceremony was held at the State Library to honor state agencies that went above and beyond in last year’s campaign. The IDOC once again exceeded its goal by raising $208,834.29 for 2009, almost 10% more than the previous year. Around the state, staff from facilities came together to host events to raise money for their selected charities. Fundraisers such as food sales, silent auctions, and a golf tournament were just a few of the events held to raise funds for the SECC. Lt. Governor Becky Skillman lent her support to the cause by returning as a guest judge for the 2nd annual Central Office Chili Cook-Off. The 2009 campaign also marked the first year that staff could donate to the Indiana Correctional Peace Officer Fund, a 501(c) (3) charity that provides assistance to a correctional employee or family member if the correctional employee has suffered a loss as the result of a natural disaster or if the employee is killed or injured in the line of duty. To recognize the accomplishments of this campaign, four IDOC facilities and Central Office received per capita awards, recognizing their exceptional efforts. The IDOC raised the most money of any state agency for the fourth consecutive year. The state also surpassed its goal, raising over $1.2 million for almost 1600 charities. Commissioner Edwin G. Buss thanked staff, saying, “The continual collaboration of our staff made the IDOC the top contributor once again. Their incredible dedication and hard work is seen time and time again when given the opportunity to give back to Indiana communities.” |
