March 16 (Bloomberg) -- Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is unlikely to face trial because he probably would be killed before being captured, said Attorney General Eric Holder. Holder made the comments at a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing today after being pressed by Republican John Culberson of Texas on whether bin Laden would face a civilian or military trial. Holder, testifying at a hearing on the Justice Department’s budget, repeatedly clashed with Republican lawmakers over the Obama administration’s handling of terrorism cases. “The reality is that we would be reading Miranda rights to the corpse of Osama bin Laden,” Holder said. “He is not going to be alive.” Republicans have been criticizing the Obama administration for its handling of the attempted Christmas bombing of a Northwest Airlines flight and the government’s plans to try Sept. 11 terrorism suspects in civilian courts.
