| Corrections Administration to be "realigned" |

The Belknap County Commission approved the new corrections chief's request to eliminate the position of lieutenant and create the position of deputy superintendent. Superintendent Daniel P. Ward Sr. told commissioners that the person in that position now, Lt. Dave Berry, served as acting superintendent after former Superintendent Richard Grenier retired and before he came aboard. "During that period it became evident that the position of lieutenant had been severely underutilized withing the structure of the Corrections Department, wrote Ward. He said that, while the grade would go from 11 to 12, the new position, with the rank of captain, would not cost county taxpayers any additional money because of a step adjustment. In addition, Ward said the new position would be salaried and not eligible for overtime. Other than that reclassification, Ward said staffing levels at the Belknap County Department of Corrections jail will remain the same, with 20 corrections officers, a program director, three sergeants, a community corrections officer, two full-time nurses, two part-time nurses and a four-fifths time administrative assistant.
