ST. LOUIS — A new program in which offenders at a handful of Missouri prisons train and rehabilitate shelter dogs to increase their chances for adoption soon could go statewide. Missouri Department of Corrections Director George Lombardi said Tuesday he wants to expand the program to each of the state's 20 prisons. Lombardi spoke at a St. Louis conference on reintegrating offenders into society. He said offenders empathize with the dogs, and the creatures in turn have elicited everyone's humanity. Read More. |
