| Progress On Prison Health Care, Still Work |

While the Delaware Department of Correction demonstrated “tremendous progress” in improving prison health care, it has more to achieve before it comes into substantial compliance with an agreement it entered with the federal government more than three years ago, according to the sixth report by an independent monitor overseeing the state prison system. “While the state made significant progress under the original [agreement], the monitoring team still has some concerns with respect to certain areas of medical or mental health care provided at the facilities,” according to the report issued shortly after midnight by the independent monitor Joshua W. Martin III. The report is the first since the state agreed last year to extend the three-year agreement it signed with the U.S Justice Department in December 2006.
