| Michigan Cuts From Corrections Budget |

LANSING (WKZO) -- The state is releasing more prisoners to cut the Corrections Department budget, to the dismay of local prosecutors and cops. The Pew Center on the States says Michigan's prison population declined by 7% last year, and last week, the State Senate passed a budget that cuts $60-million more than the Governor recommended, which could mean eve more early releases. Richard Jerome, with Pew's Public Safety Performance Project, says that while saving money is important, he hopes Pew can work with lawmakers on a bill that invests some of those savings in re-entry programs and training for inmates.
