Prison phone monitoring resulted in the safe recovery of a two-year-old boy being hidden by his parents, says the Corrections Department. The Wanganui child was the subject of a parenting order issued by the Wanganui Family Court which required him to be surrendered by his parents to other family members. The child's mother refused to comply with the order and told police the boy "would not be found". Phone calls made by her to the child's father in prison last Friday revealed where the toddler was hidden and the information was passed on to police. The calls were monitored as part of department intelligence-led monitoring operations following a tip-off from prison staff. "Monitoring prisoner phone calls is key to maintaining security at our prison sites," says national intelligence manager Rick McKee. Read More. |
