ORANGEBURG, SC -- ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - Inmates are suing a South Carolina jail complaining of malfunctioning toilets and showers and overall poor living conditions. The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported Sunday that 11 inmates have filed lawsuits against the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center in federal court. The jail holds about 400 inmates. Orangeburg-Calhoun Law Enforcement Commission Chairman Robert Hooper said some issues in the lawsuits were discovered during the jail's 2009 annual inspection and are being addressed. Read More. |
