LAWRENCEVILLE — Local leaders met with Senator L. Louise Lucas, Delegate Roslyn Tyler, and Senator Frank Ruff’s Legislative Assistant, Robbie McMillan and representatives from other state agencies at Brunswick Correctional Center on Wednesday, March 31 to discuss appropriate usage for the facility. Delegate Tommy Wright was not able to attend. Local leaders included Supervisor Marc Finney - chair of the Brunswick County Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Bernard Jones - vice chair, Brunswick County Administrator Charlette T. Woolridge, Joan Moore, executive director of the Brunswick County Industrial Development Authority, Lawrenceville Town Manager C.J. Dean, and Lawrenceville Mayor Doug Pond. Agencies represented included the Virginia Department of Corrections, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Virginia Economic Development Partnership, and the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission. Woolridge said, “County leaders have been working with state legislators to ensure that Brunswick Correctional Center remains a priority and to determine the best and highest use for the facility. As a result the following language was introduced and approved by the House and Senate.” Woolridge provided the amendment offered by Senator Lucas as well as Delegate Tyler and Delegate Tommy Wright to Senate Bill 29 and House Bill 29, which concerns revenue and budget matters now through the end of this fiscal year, June 20, 2010. This bill is known as a “caboose” bill because it covers miscellaneous fiscal matters that will get the state through the balance of this fiscal year. Read More. |
