Inmates charged in jail cell fight |

Two men in the Orange County (N.C.) Jail awaiting trial were charged with assaulting each other after a fight involving a toilet brush, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Michael Duran Blackwell, 38, of 216 N. Hoover Road, Durham, was charged with assault inflicting serious injury for allegedly hitting Mark Wade Gentry on the top of his head and behind his left ear with a toilet brush. Gentry required stitches for a cut he received, the report said. Gentry, 40, formerly of 201 Holiday Park Road, Hillsborough, was charged with simple assault for allegedly hitting Blackwell in the chest with his fist. Blackwell is awaiting trial on charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering and larceny, safecracking and kidnapping. Blackwell is accused of breaking into a home east of Hillsborough, tying up a woman and beating and kicking her in 2002. He allegedly then stole a 2002 Cadillac Escalade from the home. The woman dialed 911 using her nose to call for help. Gentry is awaiting trial on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and is accused of shooting his girlfriend in the head in Hillsborough in March. |
