A death row inmate who gained notoriety for keeping part of a victim's leg has pleaded guilty to attempted murder in a separate case, even though he had won a new trial. Jeremiah Rodgers was earlier convicted of shooting Leighton Smitherman in 1998, but the conviction was thrown out on appeal. He told the judge last Monday that he just wanted the matter to be over. Rodgers was convicted of shooting the 62-year-old man as he watched television at his home in Pace, Fla. Rodgers and another man are on death row after pleading guilty to killing 18-year-old Jennifer Robinson and then cutting off part of a leg and storing it in a freezer. Both are also serving life sentences for killing a mentally disabled man. |
