| Prison Hospital Discussion Continues |

STOCKTON - Settlement negotiations between local leaders and state prison officials continued Thursday in a dispute over building a $700 million inmate medical facility near Stockton. The deadline for reaching a settlement is today. At issue is the California Medical Facility, Stockton, which prison health care receiver J. Clark Kelso and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation want to build southeast of Stockton. The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce, city of Stockton and San Joaquin County government sued Kelso and prison officials in an attempt to force concessions, saying they feared the 1,734-bed facility could do more harm than good to the community.
