April 11, 2010 - Maurice Clemmons made calls to his wife describing plans to kill police, and if those calls had been monitored, he would have received another 27 days in jail is all. Clemmons is the gunman who ambushed and killed four Lakewood police officers in late November. The families of the officers are suing Pierce County for their deaths, claiming they should have kept Clemmons in jail. Clemmons could be heard clearly on nine hours of recorded calls saying on September 27, two days after the fourth time he was booked into Pierce County Jail, "This is the strategy. I'm going to kill police officers. I'm going to kill as many as I can. I'm going to shoot them in the head." Attorney Bob Christie said, "He said that with chilling specificity."
