A 40-year-old handcuffed man snatched a Jacinto City patrol car early Sunday, taking the shotgun from the trunk before dumping the car a few hours later in northeast Houston, authorities say. Donnie Lewis Knight remained on the run late Sunday, charged with felony counts of evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The armed suspect may be connected to a string of recent burglaries in the area, and authorities said they are also investigating Knight's possible involvement in a homicide in Georgia. Dennis Walker said. A Jacinto City patrolman tried to pull Knight over around 12:30 a.m. Sunday for speeding in a silver Kia that had been reported stolen in Georgia. Knight refused to stop, fleeing on Interstate 10 East to Uvalde, where he crashed the Kia into another car, police said. Knight then fled the scene on foot, police said. The patrolman caught him, cuffed his hands behind his back, placed him in the back seat of the patrol car and shut the door. The officer then went to check on the passengers in the car that Knight hit. Left alone, Knight apparently finagled the cuffs to the front of his body, climbed through a hole in a barrier between the front and back seats and took off in the patrol car, police said.
