WINCHESTER -- City workers and police helped North End residents clean up several streets Thursday and Friday. Their efforts yielded two dump trucks of trash and debris from the neighborhoods, which have been plagued for years with refuse and silt that had collected in the streets, curbs and gutters, according to Winchester police Sgt. Mark Lahman. The city's Community Development and Public Services departments, and the Winchester Police Department's Community Response Team aided in cleaning up North Kent, Kern, Chase, West, Fremont and Elk streets as well as Highland Avenue, Lahman says in a news release. Winchester police Lt. W.K. Stotlemyer led and coordinated the cleanup effort. Team members inspected the area the day before the cleanup, notified residents and posted "No Parking" signs along the streets. All residents complied with the request to keep their vehicles off the streets, Lahman said. Read More. |
