| Man Pleads Guilty To Escaping in '79 |

Oscar Richardson -- a man known around Branson as Eugene Ward -- pleaded guilty Monday to escape charges stemming from a Florida prison escape in 1979. Richardson, described by Taney County Sheriff Jimmie Russell as "a model citizen," lived in the Branson area for 26 years before being tracked down by local officials. Richardson originally pleaded not guilty to the escape charges in Florida at his arraignment in February. His attorney, Christopher Smith, said it took some time for all the involved parties to agree on a sentencing recommendation. Smith said the prosecutor and the Florida Department of Corrections have agreed on a sentence recommendation of a year and a day for every year Richardson had left on his sentence. Read More. |
