At career fairs, it's the police and fire department displays that eager public safety job-seekers flock first, officials say. "Nobody really grows up wanting to be a corrections officer," Mary Lou McDonough, director of the Prince George's County Department of Corrections, said at a budget meeting last week, when she highlighted the difficulties of recruiting. Misconceptions about what the job entails as well as the lack of prestige that other public safety agencies hold make it a difficult job to recruit for, McDonough said.
