| Prosecutors Want Jail For Ex-Mayor of Detroit |

DETROIT, April 14 (UPI) -- Prosecutors asked a judge Wednesday to return former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to jail, arguing he concealed $650,000 in assets. In a 22-page brief, Wayne County Assistant District Attorneys Athina Siringas and Robert Spada said Kilpatrick violated probation by failing to disclose money that could have been used to pay $1 million in court-ordered restitution. Kilpatrick resigned as mayor and served a short jail sentence after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice and assault on a sheriff's deputy. Kilpatrick "fraudulently conveyed assets to others to avoid his obligation to pay restitution," the prosecutors said. Judge David Groner said he will announce next week whether he has found Kilpatrick guilty of violation of probation. Groner must also decide whether the violation justifies more prison time.
