WAYNESBURG - The state Department of Corrections confirmed Tuesday that the State Correctional Institution at Waynesburg will reopen in mid-August. The 510-bed facility off Route 188 in Morgan Township will house male nonviolent offenders, those with substance abuse issues and those serving short-term sentences, said DOC deputy press secretary Susan Bensinger. "It will be an alcohol and drug treatment center for those with less than 12 months left to serve until their minimum sentence," said Bensinger. "It will offer an evidence-based program that will address what led to the addictive behavior that caused their alcohol or drug addiction." Read More. |
