| Walmart Thief Attempts Escape By Water |

A suspected shoplifter broke away from Walmart security officials and jumped into the Napa River Tuesday afternoon and was chased by police in a helicopter and other officers in a boat before being arrested. Napa police say Dennis White, 41, reportedly stole several items valued at a total of $70 from Walmart sometime after noon. White was confronted by Walmart’s loss prevention team and taken into the security office at the store. Once there, White reportedly became agitated and threatened employees, pushed two workers and fled the store by running out of an emergency exit. Employees chased White and eventually spotted him in the river, Napa Police Lt. Brian McGovern said. It’s uncertain exactly where White entered the river. Police arrived and ordered White to get out of the water. White refused, either floating or swimming south with the current until he was in view of the First Street bridge by Copia, in the middle of the Oxbow. Read More. |
