El Mirage police believe the suspect in the June 2005 shooting death of a single mother could have been arrested and convicted years ago. Instead, Rachel Rodriguez's boyfriend Arturo Hernandez Jr. was charged with second-degree murder this month, five years after her family found her body in her bedroom closet. This is not a typical cold case, authorities said, but an unfortunate case of law-enforcement neglect. "Every bit of evidence that we have today that has allowed us to indict (Hernandez) for second-degree murder was available in 2005," El Mirage Assistant Police Chief Bill Louis said. Read More. |
