Already State Owned Jails Won't Be Privatized

The Arizona State Government has changed its thinking on possibly privatizing some state owned and operated prisons with the announcement of the repeal of the “Concession Agreement.” Charles L. Ryan, Director of the Department Corrections, said in a statement released last Friday (April 16) to all DOC employees, that the law passed in November of last year to privatize the operations of up to nine Arizona Department of Corrections complexes through a “Concession Agreement” has been repealed with the recent passage of House Bill 2006 by the legislature.

The repeal measure was signed last month by Governor Jan Brewer and goes into effect on June 15.
