| Prison Guards Going Against Judge |

JUNEAU — Disparaging comments made by a judge against the character of a corrections officer during a sentencing hearing have sent waves of criticism rolling through the ranks of prison workers throughout Dodge County. Dodge County Circuit Court Judge Andrew Bissonnette is being taken to task by union officials at Waupun Correctional Institution following the Feb. 19 sentencing involving an inmate found guilty of punching the officer in the neck during a scuffle at the prison in 2008. "During sentencing (Bissonnette) pulls out the officer's personnel file (which was inadmissible during the jury trial) and starts comparing the officer to the inmate, saying that the inmate has better conduct than the officer, among other things in his file," said Sgt. Daniel Meehan, president of Local 18. "This inmate is serving 30 years for first-degree sexual assault of a child, has amassed more than 55 conduct reports since he's been incarcerated and his file is better?" Meehan said. "The correctional officer was the victim in this case…and this abuse and degradation of a victim in the courtroom was unacceptable." Read More. |
