| Troubled Jail Hires New Chief |

Osceola County's troubled jail will get a new interim chief tomorrow. Kim Bogart, executive director of the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission and a 2008 candidate for Pasco County sheriff, was hired Tuesday to the post. Bogart has committed to filling the position for three months, but the contract could be extended to six month if interim County Manager Don Fisher deems it appropriate. Bogart's resume includes 16 years' experience as a command-level officer, during which he served as major and captain at the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. He also owned a security-consulting and training firm, Bogart & Associates. He will earn is $5,152 biweekly. Bogart's hiring came as a surprise this week. The jail already had an interim chief, former Deputy Chief Raul Banasco. He was appointed last month after Corrections Chief Greg Futch resigned after an attempted escape, two successful escapes and one hanging at his facility in 15 months. A week ago, county commissioners had discussed scheduling a workshop to sort out solutions to the jail's problems, including privatization of the facility.
