Police officer Mike Miehle called it the most difficult case he has handled in his six months as the department's prosecutor. Michael Leighton, 24, of 8 Nutter St. in East Rochester, appeared in court to plead guilty to 12 violations related to his pit bulls running at large in March.

Leighton was charged with six counts each of dog at large and vicious dog after his two pit bulls, Chonto and Jada, escaped from his home on March 22, and ran through the neighborhood. Leighton was charged for damages after his dogs killed Troy, a pug from Prospect Street, and injured Bandit, a Papillon from Portland Street, Melanie, a chocolate lab from Hobart Street and Panda, a Chihuahua from Flower Drive, Miehle said.
