Detroit police officials are investigating whether officers went too far when restraining a 32-year-old Detroit man over the weekend, Assistant Chief Ralph Godbee said Thursday. Family members of Lawrence Sample say he was kicked, punched and stomped into unconsciousness as he and friends left a downtown nightclub. "We're going to have a war between law enforcement and our citizens," a tearful Erica Sample, 31, told the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners. "Kids are afraid of the police officers."
