OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - "I need to make this very clear… I am interim chief. I'm not here permanently," said Interim Jail Chief Kim Bogart. It's his second day on the job at the Osceola County Jail. The interim chief is making it clear that he will only be there for 3 to 6 months while the search for a new jail chief continues. "My job is to identify the issues and find resolution," Bogart. He say's part of his job of interim chief is to get the jail ready for the next chief. The last chief stepped down after two inmates escaped and a third walked out of jail on bond using someone else's name earlier this year. "This is an embarrassment," said Deputy Chief Bogart. So how does interim chief Bogart plan on turning things around? "Some of the first things I'm absolutely going to focus on, I'm going to examine hiring procedures, I'm going to look at training processes, internal training processes," said the interim chief. The State Department of Corrections inspectors looked at the jail last week. Next week the National Institute of Corrections will do another inspection. Recommendations from both groups will be studied and implemented. But, Bogart believes the biggest problem is morale. Read More. |
