| New TCI Building Will Cost $1.2M |

MADISON — The State Building Commission Wednesday approved $1.2 million for a new building at Taycheedah Correctional Institution, part of a $7.48 million project to provide better mental health care treatment at the women's prison in Fond du Lac. Medical staff numbers at Taycheedah have been increased to comply with a U.S. Department of Justice consent decree, but they are working in crowded conditions, said Kevin Reid-Rice, Wisconsin Department of Corrections budget officer. To provide space for mental health services, the Monarch and Segregation units will be expanded, and the Simpson Building will be remodeled. Simpson houses vocational training and services. Those functions will be relocated to the 13,600-square-foot steel building the commission approved Wednesday.
