| Florida Inmate Escapes, Captured Again |

BARTOW | In a five-hour span overnight, police say an inmate walked away from a state work camp, stole money at two convenience stores, then landed back in custody when a Bartow police officer spotted him early Thursday. Samson J. Williams was charged with escape, robbery and petty theft after his arrest early Thursday, five hours after he escaped from a Florida Department of Corrections work release camp. The 23-year-old is now in the Polk County Jail, said Sgt. David Wyant of the Bartow Police Department. Bartow police captured Williams shortly after 4:15 a.m. He offered no resistance, Wyant said. Williams walked away from the work release camp at 550 N. Restwood Ave. near the Peace River Country Club about 9 p.m. Wednesday and rode a bicycle west to a Circle K convenience store at 1193 E. Main St., where he reportedly stole money from the cash register, according to Bartow police. Read More. |
