Prison Closing, Feds May Buy

THOMSON, Ill. — Today is Shane Boyson’s last day on the job at the Thomson Correctional Center.

The wife of the 28-year-old corrections officer is hoping for a quiet weekend at home with her husband and two young children before Shane starts his new job Monday at the East Moline Correctional Center, about 50 miles away.

Today’s closing of the prison in Thomson in preparation for the possible sale to the federal government for use as a federal penitentiary will mean upheaval in the daily routines of the employees who worked at Thomson.

Brook Boyson said she just hopes this will be the last in a series of upheavals for employees like her husband as Illinois officials continue to try to figure out how to get the $140 million prison open.
