Inmates to Help in Oil Spill Cleanup

As fishermen and others line up to help the oil company BP, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has another source of manpower: state inmates.

With a looming environmental catastrophe imminent, U.S. authorities are racing to contain the Gulf of Mexico oil slick. As a result, they have enrolled Louisiana inmates in the clean-up effort.

The Department of Corrections is "working with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (DWF) to train inmates in oil spill clean-up efforts so they can assist the federal lead agencies," Mr. Jindal said of the effort.
