On April 22, 2010, the College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University recognized Wyoming Department of Corrections Director Bob Lampert as the recipient of the 2010 Outstanding Alumnus Award. During the annual event, the college honors service and leadership and superior scholarship. A Marine Corps veteran with more than 35 years of correctional experience, Director Lampert earned several degrees from Sam Houston State University. He began his higher education at Chapman College and earned his Associate in Arts degree in 1977. In 1979, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and Corrections from Sam Houston; in 1986, he earned a Master of Arts in Criminology and Corrections and a Master of Business Administration from Sam Houston; and in 1994, he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston. During his tenure with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Mr. Lampert rose through the ranks from correctional officer to senior warden. Upon his retirement from the Texas system, he worked for five years in the Oregon Department of Corrections. He concluded his career in Oregon as superintendent of Oregon's only maximum-security adult correctional facility. In November 2003, Governor Dave Freudenthal appointed Mr. Lampert director of the Wyoming Department of Corrections(WDOC). The WDOC administers adult probation and parole services in each of the 23 counties and five adult prisons. |
