SACRAMENTO) – In the wake of revelations that hundreds of dangerous felons have been erroneously released, Assemblymember Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) is calling on the California Department of Corrections (CDCR) to immediately halt the implementation of the State´s new unsupervised parole program, Non-Revocable Parole (NRP), and for the Inspector General to conduct an independent investigation and audit. "CDCR´s search for hundreds of violent felons mistakenly released onto unsupervised parole, the release of hundreds of other unsupervised violent, serious or sex offender felons, and CDCR´s misleading statements to the public warrant an immediate investigation and audit," said Assemblymember Lieu. "These blunders are huge red flags, and CDCR needs to halt the implementation of this program until the Inspector General has the opportunity to fully review CDCR´s internal process, controls and risk assessment tools used to make unsupervised parole determinations."
