The last time Sylvester Sisco’s name showed up in this newspaper, it was in a story about crime and punishment. Today, it’s a story about hope and potential — albeit one with a big asterisk of budget uncertainty. Sylvester Sisco II was convicted in October for his part in a 2006 murder in a Kansas City bar. He’s 28, and he’s facing a lifetime in prison. His son, Sylvester Sisco III, is a third-grader in Kansas City. With the help of Leland Abraham, his opportunities are boundless. Abraham, a Lee’s Summit lawyer, is a mentor to Sylvester through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City.
