FAIRBANKS — A Fairbanks man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Tuesday for sexually molesting a young girl. Donald L. Spurgeon, 62, pleaded guilty earlier this year to three counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, a class B felony. He will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Two other counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor were dropped, in accordance with a plea agreement with prosecutors. Spurgeon was arrested in July after a girl under age 10 told Alaska State Troopers he inappropriately touched her while riding a jet ski with her. A friend of the girl then told troopers that Spurgeon touched her on at least five occasions between January 2008 and July 2009. Read More. |
